Burning Parliament by Richard Bartle Sheffield based contemporary artist. working at bloc studios sheffield. Painting

burning parliament (after Turner)

2004

Acrylic and transfers on canvas

69 x 98 cm

I wouldn't want parliament to burn, not really! But when I hear of all the corruption and self interest - and that awful yah boo rhetoric, I cannot help wishing it would change. I guess this painting is a metaphor, a re-imagining of what Turner originally painted and the incredible symbolism that the first burning down of parliament represented.
