demons having fun by richard bartle

About the work

Some things in my exhibition are just about making marks and having fun. The texture on this painting was made using a tiler’s adhesive spreader that I bought in Istanbul. The surface of these demons is a combination of combing and sanding to produce highly flattened surfaces that sit in contrast to the thick impasto. The wavy lines of colour are made using a length of rope I bought in Istanbul, dipped in paint and carefully lowered onto the work.

There is also something in this work about my own personality. my own darkness. I don’t think it was healthy to spend so much time analysing my demons.
