demons and a mongolian knot by Richard Bartle

About the work

The Mongolian knot is an important symbol in Buddhism, it is supposed to be an endless knot. In Siyah Kalem’s original artwork he seems to depict the Mongolian Knot as a sort of conundrum, one of those puzzles that only a true believer can solve. Me, I preferred the idea of creating something that would become and annoyingly ravelled tangle if it were ever touched.

Once again, this artwork is about the processes of making. Using tools and mark-making techniques to generate shape, surface textures, and patterns.
