Unearthed
The Lincolnshire Series was developed from a period of living and working in rural Lincolnshire, where walking, looking and gathering became part of the making process. The paintings begin with small things found in the landscape: fragments of brick, pottery, iron, bronze, buttons, coins and worked stone. These objects are not illustrations of history, but points of contact between material, place and imagination.

The work sits between archaeology, painting and material evidence. Each object carries evidence of use, loss, weathering and time, but also opens a space for invention. Through drawing, projection, staining, sanding and repeated layers of paint, the found object becomes enlarged, altered and re-seen. What begins as something held in the hand becomes a field, a surface, a presence.
